By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize City Council has announced the return of its Super Sale initiative, being held to coincide with the upcoming celebration of Mother’s Day.

The first Super Sale of 2022 is being held in Downtown Belize City on Saturday, May 6, and the council has promised a unique experience along with great savings for everyone in attendance.

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner explained that the initiative follows the widely successful pop-up shop held in the Battlefield Park two weeks ago, and is geared toward increasing economic activity by attracting consumers to shop in Belize instead of going to Mexico.

“We noticed that businesses were suffering in the downtown area, so we came up with the initiative back in 2018 when we first took office, to create an environment that generates businesses for the companies and savings for the consumers,” Wagner said.

He noted that the first sale in 2018 started with only 15 participating businesses, but the last sale, held in 2020 just before lockdowns, had a total of 80 participating businesses and garnered over 15,000 attendees.

Wagner also noted that spaces are still available and encouraged any business that wants to participate to reserve its space by calling the Belize City Council at 227-3073.
