By Benjamin Flowers: A fire in Belize City over the Easter weekend destroyed one house and damaged another.

The Belize National Fire Service (BNFS) says that when it responded to the call of the fire on Antelope Street Extension, Belize City, the team deployed found the two houses, situated in the same yard, being damaged by fire.

The first structure, belonging to Alfredo David, was damaged beyond saving, while the second structure, belonging to Benito Fernandez, received fire damage to the exterior siding, and a portion of the roof, as well as damages to the electrical wiring.

Kenneth Mortis, Station Sergeant for the BNFS, noted that the Antelope Street area has been a hot spot for fires recently.

“That fire was the result of an illegal connection that then spread to Mr. Fernandez’s structure,” Mortis said.

The value of the damage is still being ascertained as part of an ongoing investigation.
