By Aaron Humes: Police tonight are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a John Doe retrieved this evening from the Macal River.

According to police, they received information about the body seen floating near Branch Mouth area. On responding they were told that the body was found about half a mile up the Macal River from where the Macal and Mopan merge into the Belize River.

With the assistance of the public, police say, a canoe was used to go up the river to retrieve the body. The body was then brought to the bank where it was observed to be that of a man approximately in his mid-40s.

He was dressed in a white T-shirt with green Sean John markings and long dark blue jeans pants. The body had no footwear, only a pair of white socks. Some tattoos were observed on both arms of the body.

No visible signs of physical violence were observed. The body was transported to the San Ignacio community hospital where it was pronounced dead. The body awaits a post-mortem examination.
