By Benjamin Flowers: Russia is preparing for the next phase of its armed siege of Ukraine with a full-scale offensive against Eastern Ukraine, and will do so with the aid of fighters from Syria, reports PBS News.
The group is said to be composed of the former Syrian military, former rebels, and others who are experienced in armed conflict. A small group has already reportedly arrived in Russia for training in preparation for battle, with more expected to arrive in the coming days.
Rami Abdurrahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said that Around 700 members of al-Hassan’s 25th Special Missions Forces Division, known in Syria as the “Tiger Force,” left Syria over the past weeks to fight along with Russian forces; however, PBS noted that the estimated numbers could not be independently confirmed.
Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, and has since engaged in peace talks with Ukraine; however, President Vladimir Putin recently referred to those talks as “dead” after Ukraine accused Russia of planning “Acts of Terror.”
