By Aaron Humes: Police have commended Belizeans’ restraint with waterways this weekend.
As many enjoyed the Cayes, seas, and rivers, just two incidents of drowning were reported this year – Faustino Camara in Guinea Grass, Orange Walk, and Enrique Quiroz of San Ignacio Town in Bullet Tree Falls.
The former went swimming while intoxicated, which Police have specifically warned against. Communications Officer ASP Fitzroy Yearwood today said that while Police cannot restrain individuals with free will, this is inevitably the result.
Quiroz had gone swimming with two other young men when he apparently drowned; alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident.
Police continue to encourage visitors to waterways to avoid doing so while intoxicated, as well as not to drink and drive.
