Belize to play Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua in U19 Central American Football Championship starting Sunday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 19 Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) will play against Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua in U19 Central American Football Championship that the FFB is hosting in Belmopan starting Sunday.

The seven Central American countries plus Puerto Rico as invited guests are competing in the Central American Championship at the FFB Stadium and the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan from Sunday, April 24, to Saturday, April 30.

Tickets for the games cost $5 said the FFB that is asking fans to attend the matches in support of our young men.

Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua are in Group A while Guatemala, Panama, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico are in Group B.

The U19 BMNT will play their initial three games at 7:00 pm at the FFB Stadium.

On opening day, Sunday, April 24, Belize take on Nicaragua. On Tuesday, the BMNT will match up against El Salvador. The final group match will be against Honduras on Thursday.

Belize will have one more game to be played on the last day, Saturday, April 30. The opponents, date, time, and venue will depend on our final position in Group B.

The tournament will be played in a round robin format. The group winners play for the championship on Saturday April 30. That same day the two second place teams play for third place, the two third place teams face each other for fifth place and the two last place teams take on each other for seventh place.

Games will be played on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Four matches are scheduled on each of those four days: two at the FFB Stadium and two at the Isidoro Beaton.

All the national teams are expected to arrive here on Friday, April 22, and should leave on Monday, May 1.
