By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2022 Belize City Men’s and Women’s Fast Pitch Softball tournaments bat off on Sunday, April 24, at Rogers Stadium.

Belize City Softball Association President Shane Williams sent an open invitation letter to team managers, umpires, players, and fans announcing the start of the official championships. Williams said the BCSA is inviting clubs, firms, and organizations to join the league.

“Games this season will be played on Sundays starting at 10 a.m.,” said the invitation letter.

“The tournament will run for 15 consecutive Sundays with 4 games per day. Team Registration is $500 due at the end of Week 2. All teams are expected to have full jerseys by the end of Week 2 when rosters will be final.”

Williams said the first and third games will be Women’s and the second and fourth will be Men’s.

The first four games will feature the E-Kyash Bulldogs against Wolfpack at 10:00 am, Dream Crushers facing Guardian at 11:00 am, E-Kyash Bulldogs versus Beacon at 12:00 pm, and Dream Crushers against Wolfpack again at 1:00 pm.

The tournaments are going to be played under the latest World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Rules and are not open championships.

“Players will be registered members of the Belize City Softball Association as these tournaments are qualifiers for Nationals. Any player who participates in these leagues cannot participate in qualifying tournaments for other associations,” said Williams’ letter.

Williams explained that while the entrance fee is $5 for adults, $2 for high school students, and children under 12 go in for free, nobody will be turned away.

“Nobody will be turned away at the gate. If one cannot afford the entrance fee, any contribution will be accepted. Only those who pay the entrance fee will enter into raffles and promotions,” Williams said.

But while the BCSA is willing to accept anyone at their tournaments, Williams said that the BCSA has a zero-tolerance policy for abusive language at the stadium.

Teams interested in competing may reach Williams at 629-5375 or [email protected].
