Belize City man charged for harm in domestic dispute granted bail

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man is out on bail after being charged with harming his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

Barrett Pollard, 25, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on wednesday, where he plead not guilty to the charge and asked the court to speak.

He explained that he did have a dispute with the complainant in which they were both injured, but she came to him with a medico-legal form and a restraining order days after the incident occurred.

The Magistrate stopped him during his explanation to say that he did not have to explain anything at that stage in the proceedings since he already pleaded not guilty.

He was granted bail in the sum of $700 plus two sureties of the same and his next trial date was set for June 20.

However, he had outstanding fines before the court and needed to pay at least $500 before he could post bail.
