By BBN Staff: A Belize City man is out on bail after he allegedly punched his friend in the eye so hard it damaged his vision.

Manuel Acosta, 25, was arraigned, unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he was read a single charge of harm.

The act was committed back in June of 2021, but Acosta had been avoiding coming to court, and when asked, he told the Magistrate that he had fractured ribs and could not move well.

The victim, who told police he was socializing when Acosta hit him, reported that the hit blurred the vision in his right eye.

Acosta was granted bail in the sum of $700 plus one surety and is due back in court on May 20.

Notbaly he had two other pending matters before the court that he had not been showing up for either, each with their own date for him to return to court.
