Tourism Board, Belize Tax Services to cooperate in tax administration

By Aaron Humes: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and Belize Tax Service (BTS) are embarking on greater cooperation in the area of tax administration for the tourism sector.

Tourism remains one of the single greatest contributors to the national economy and has been taxed at almost every level of service.

The Board and the tax agency will “strengthen the inter-institutional collaboration in areas that include information sharing, intelligence meetings, joint audits and other areas concerning the effective administration of tourism-related taxes in Belize,” as mentioned in a statement.

Signing on behalf of the BTB was Director of Tourism, Evan Tillett, and signing on behalf of the Belize Tax Service was the Director-General, Michelle Longsworth. In attendance to witness the signing was the BTB’s Registrar of Hotels, Denmar Villar, and the Belize Tax Services’ Deputy Director-General, Vilma Broaster.
