Belize Audubon Society asks Belizeans to plant a tree on occasion of Earth Day 2022

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Earth Day 2022 is being observed on Friday, April 21, under the theme Invest in Our Planet.

To mark the occasion, the Belize Audubon Society is asking Belizeans to ‘Green Belize’ by planting a tree.

“April 22nd, 2022 is Earth Day. But you can celebrate Earth Day all week long with the Belize Audubon Society by planting a tree. Come to the Belize City office or Guanacaste National Park, take a selfie with your tree, and post it to your Facebook or Instagram account with the hashtags #GreeningacrossBelize and #BelizeAudubonsociety,” said the Belize Audubon Society (BAS).

“Plant your tree in a sunny area with lots of space. Water it daily and watch it grow.”

Though the celebration of Earth Day started in 1970, the day was first recognized worldwide in 1990 and adopted by the United Nations as International Mother Earth Day in 2009.

It is projected that on this year’s Earth Day approximately a billion people in 190 countries are participating in activities which included tree plantings, rallies, and clean-up campaigns.

This year, Earth Day organizers around the world are hoping to plant 7.8 billion trees during the Earth Day activities.
