The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) said it successfully completed its two-day Annual General Meeting at Ayin-Ha Resort in Lemonal Village in the Belize District.
MAFSE said the objective of the 2022 AGM was to present the accomplishments and workplans that will guide the Ministry in its planning, activities, and initiatives for the next year.
“The workplans outlined the vision of the various departments and partner agencies to promote agriculture locally and to be more export-oriented under the new programmatic framework of vegetable and root crops, grains, traditional crops, and livestock, among others,” said MAFSE in an online post.
After the opening by Minister Jose Abelardo Mai on Thursday, presentations were made on vegetables and root crops, fruits trees, grains, livestock, agro-processing, food security and nutrition, and MAFSE’s extension services and projects.
The first day also reviewed agriculture related topics and organizations such as climate change and water management, the Research and Development programme in Central Farm, the Cooperatives Department, the Bureau of Standards, Supplies Control, and the Corozal Free Zone.
The second day the MAFSE AGM had a series of presentations by the Ministry’s stakeholders and partners. In the morning session, presentations were made by the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation, the Pesticides Control Board, the Belize Agriculture Health Authority (BAHA), the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute (SIRDI), and the Resilient Rural Belize program, the Belize Livestock Producers Association, the Directorate General for Foreign Trade, the Belize Trade & Development Service (Beltraide), the Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
The afternoon session on Friday saw presentations by the Inter-American Institute for Agriculture Cooperation, the International Regional Organization of Agricultural Health (OIRSA), and the Ya’axché Conservation Trust.
