By Aaron Humes: Christon Rocha of Dangriga Town remains on the run after a vicious assault on his former partner last week.
Vanessa Reyes has written a short account of her ordeal on social media, making a public call for help to capture and put away Rocha to end any chance of him killing her as he has threatened.
Reyes, who began her post saying that “I am living a life no woman should live,” writes that she is presently in a safe house, but wishes “…to sleep comfortably in the confines of my home with my kids; to be at work and do what I love best.”
Nonetheless, she lives in fear despite having made reports to police, she said and has gotten a restraining order against the accused Rocha. “Please help me, my life is not normal, and more than anything I want my kids, peace, and sanity back,” she wrote.
Rocha, she said, “refuses to let me live a normal life,” going on to accuse him of “[mauling] me with a bat in front of my three kids, just last week he stabbed me 3 times to the head in front of my coworkers. He wants me dead but for my kids, I will live!” And, she added, “I refuse to be a statistic to domestic violence. My heart breaks, for my friend Tracey Thompson, may her soul rest in peace. Her death has given me the courage to speak up and to seek help.” Thompson was stabbed to death in Corozal on Friday morning; the suspect in the case has been arrested and charged.
She concludes with a biblical quote and a final plea: “So now I am going to the public because this must end! If you know the whereabouts of Christon Rocha please call crime stoppers or the nearest police station.”
