Shane Bennett, convicted of murder, to be additionally charged with wounding a police officer and escaping lawful custody

By Benjamin Flowers: When Shane Bennett was convicted in the Southern Session of the Supreme Court yesterday, he took off running out of the courtroom, and sources have told Breaking Belize News that his actions will earn him additional charges.

Bennett was apprehended by Police Corporal (Cpl) Gregory Cayetano after a struggle that ended with him in custody and Cpl Cayetano with an injury to his face.

Despite his murder conviction, Bennett will be charged for his escape and for the injuries he caused to Cpl Cayetano.

He was convicted for the 2020 murder of Anthony Parks and ran off while the court was preparing to set a date for his sentencing hearing.

That date has been set for June 25.
