Costa Rica routed Puerto Rico 4-1 in their final Group B encounter on in the UNCAF U19 FIFA FORWARD Central American Championship on Thursday at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Shawn Johnson, Ryan Cane, Andrey Soto, and Berny Segura scored for Costa Rica to put them in contention for Group B’s top spot.
With their five points they could have a shot if either Guatemala and Panama draw or if Panama win in the second game tonight. In that case, Costa Rica and either Guatemala or Panama would be tied at five points and the goal differential would have to be used.
A Guatemala win in the second game, gives the Guatemalans the top spot.
At the half, Panama lead Guetamala 1-0.
Whoever wins the group will in the Final against El Salvador on Saturday at 7:00 pm at the FFB Stadium.
For their part, invited guests Puerto Rico gained one point and finished last in the group. On Saturday at 4:15 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, they will play Group A 4th place team to decide the 7th place finisher in the tournament.
