El Salvador slip past Nicaragua 1-0, qualify to Final of U19 FIFA FORWARD Central American Championship

El Salvador defeated Nicaragua 1-0 in their final Group A game at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan on Thursday qualifying for the Final of U19 FIFA FORWARD Central American Championship.

Cesar Alexander Orellana hit the target in the 45’ to give La Azulita the win.

Finishing with nine points from three consecutive victories, El Salvador topped Group A and qualified to the Final to be played at 7:00 pm at the FFB Stadium against the winners of Group B.

Nicaragua finished the tournament with four points and a 4-4 goal record. They will finish second unless Belize were to blow out Honduras tonight Thursday.

As it stands Belize have one point from their 2-2 draw with Nicaragua, but because of their 5-1 loss to El Salvador, they would have to beat Honduras by five goals to finish second. That looks impossible considering that at the half hour mark, Honduras are leading 1-0.

Honduras are not a threat to Nicaragua. Since they lost their first two games, a win over Belize would give the Hondurans just three points.

In the best case scenario for Nicaragua would play for third place against the Group B second place team at 4:15 pm on Saturday at the FFB Stadium.
