The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) conducted a four-day apiary inspection in the Stann Creek District on apiaries that were recently established under Honey Production Redevelopment Support Project.

According to a MAFSE social media post, the inspection of the beneficiary apiaries was conducted to verify their condition and progress.

“It was noted that 90 percent of the beneficiaries had expanded their apiaries after receiving new hives while some had even made the first extraction of honey,” said MAFSE.

The apiaries’ inspection was carried out by MAFSE Extension Officer Edgar Tuyud and Department of Cooperatives’ Officer Eduardo Leiva with the assistance of the Honey Project.

“The honey industry seems to be moving forward in the Stann Creek District with training also being carried out in other districts like Orange Walk, as the industry is revitalized to include women and youth to ensure its longevity,” said MAFSE.

A one-week ‘Training of Trainers in Advanced Beekeeping Management Practices’ workshop for 20 beekeepers and five Ministry of Agriculture Extension Officers from Belize, Orange Walk, and Corozal Districts concludes on Friday at the Yo Creek Agriculture Station in Yo Creek, Orange Walk District.
