One hundred forty runners have registered for the Climb of Death Run from San Felipe Orange Walk to Blue Creek on Sunday, May 1.

The Climb of Death Run, called that way because of the steep hill to reach Blue Creek, is being held to raise funds for St Michael’s RC Primary School in San Felipe to build new bathroom facilities.

The 10.3 miles (16.58 kilometers) starts at 5:30 at St Michael’s in San Felipe and heads to Blue Creek where it finishes at the EMMC Park.

Sixty-one women and 79 men have signed to compete. Ricardo Salazar of Total Time Belize said that the 140 runners are from all districts except for Toledo according to their residential information.

“The uniqueness of the climb of Death 10 mile run this year is that apart from building your physical stamina, your mental strength and testing your perseverance, everyone participating is also helping the students at St. Michael R. C. School, in the Orange Walk District,” said St Michael’s Principal D. Cal.

“The school … is presently advocating for financial assistance to construct new, urgently needed bathroom facilities. The present bathrooms were constructed in the 1980’s and are barely withstanding the elements. This fundraiser is the first to begin accumulating the funds necessary to build healthier bathroom facilities for a total of 360 enrolled students.”
