By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Puerto Rico defeated Belize 2-1 in a come from behind effort in the seventh-place game in the U19 FIFA FORWARD Central American Championship on Saturday at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Kevin Higinio scored the opener for Belize in the 9’ but Jeremy de León Rodríguez evened the match in the 23’. Captain Jan Carlos Mateo sealed the win for Puerto Rico.
The win gave Puerto Rico the seventh spot in the tournament with Belize being relegated to the eighth and last berth.
The FFB expected the U19 Belize Men’s National Team to perform better but unfortunately, after drawing the first game 2-2 with Nicaragua, Belize fell 5-1 to El Salvador and 2-0 to Honduras in the first round before stumbling yet again against invited guests Puerto Rico in the seventh-place match.
