Today is World Fruit Day and the Ministry of Health and Wellness reminds us that we should include fruits and vegetables in our diets.
“On this World Fruit Day, the Nutrition Unit reminds you that fruits and vegetables contain important vitamins, minerals, and plant chemicals. They prevent diseases like cancer, heart diseases, and diabetes,” said the MOHW in a social media post.
“They also contain fiber, and they are delicious!”
The Ministry of Health & Wellness said it is celebrating World Fruit Day in partnership with the Central American and Panama Institute of Nutrition (INCAP).
“The production and consumption of fruits help to improve the living conditions of the population of the countries of Central America and the Dominican Republic, it also benefits their food and nutritional security,” said the MOHW.
The MOHW went on to say that fruits contribute to people enjoying a better life.
“Growing and consuming fruits is important for the enjoyment of a healthier lifestyle by improving food and nutritional security. If we practice eating five servings of fruit and vegetables a day, diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity can be prevented,” said the MOHW.
