Belize fails to advance to second round at Central American Table Tennis Championships in Guatemala

Devesh Huhmani won one of his matches against his Honduran opponent in the Men’s Singles Championship on Tuesday. Aside from that, the Belize representatives at the Central American Table Tennis Championships in Guatemala lost all their matches and failed to advance to the second round.

In the Men’s Singles, in Group 5, on Tuesday, Devesh Hukmani finished third with one win and two losses. In the first encounter, Hukmani lost to eventual group winner Darío Arce from Mexico (0-3) 4-11, 2-11, and 5-11.

He then bounced back and defeated Luis Tejada of Honduras (3-0) 11-5, 13-11, 11-6, but in his final encounter Hukmani fell to El Salvador’s Job Martinez (0-3) 3-11, 7-11, 6-11.

Mexico’s Arce won Group 5 with 3-0 record

On Wednesday, May 4, in the Men’s Doubles, Hukmani paired with Taye Parkinson but lost (0-3) to Guatemala’s Héctor Gatica and Héber Moscoso: 4-11, 6-11, 4-11. In the Mixed Doubles on Wednesday as well, Devesh Hukmani and Saraí Paguaga won a set but lost 1-3 to Guatemala’s Héctor Gatica and Mabelyn Enríquez: 4-11, 6-11, 11-8, 4-11.

On the first day of action, on Tuesday, May 3, our other representatives lost all their matches as well.

In the Men’s Singles, in Group 4, Belize’s Parin Thadani finished fourth out of four with 0-3 record. Thadani fell to Alejandro Montoya from Costa Rica (1-3) 9-11, 11-7, 11-1, 11-6 in the first encounter. Then he fell to Honduras’ Jorge Limas (0-3) 5-11, 2-11, 4-11, and in the final game he was beaten by El Salvador’s Diego Orantes (0-3) 4-11, 3-11, 6-11.

Orantes won Group 4 with a 3-0 record

In Group 6, Belize’s Taye Parkinson finished 4th out of 4 with 0-3 record. He fell to Guatemala’s Sergio Carrillo (0-3) 4-11, 3-11, 5-11, to Panama’s Raúl Miranda (1-3) 5-11, 11-8, 4-11, 6-11, and to Costa Rica’s Daniel Araya (3-0) 7-11, 4-11, 3-11.

Araya won Group 7 undefeated with a 3-0 record

In the Women’s Singles, in Group 2, Belize’s Saraí Paguaga lost 0-3 to Guatemala’s Mabelyn Enríquez 5-11, 3-11, 11-13 and 0-3 as well to Angie Araya of Costa Rica 3-11, 4-11, 1-11.
