By Rubén Morales Iglesias: A candlelight vigil is to be held this evening in San Ignacio-Santa Elena in memory of Chris Rodriguez.
“We will start at his house at 89 George Price Avenue (Rodriguez Residence) and walk to Norman Broaster Stadium. Everyone is welcome!” said Alexandria Rodriguez in a social media post.
The candlelight vigil sets off at 6:00 pm.
The San Ignacio-Santa Elena community is stunned by the way 18-year-old Chris Anthony Rodriguez of Santa Elena died on Wednesday morning in San Ignacio.
Rodriguez was stabbed on Tuesday evening at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio allegedly by the caretaker of the sporting venue where Rodriguez and his cousin 17-year-old Keon Rodriguez from Santa Elena as well, were practicing football at the stadium.
Rodriguez and the caretaker reportedly had an altercation after the caretaker reportedly told the two Rodriguez boys that they had to leave the stadium because they hadn’t paid the fee to use the facility.
What has the Cayo community in shock is seeing a video which shows a man, allegedly the caretaker, chasing Rodriguez within the stadium after allegedly stabbing him.
The police reported that they found Rodriguez after 6:00 pm on Tuesday “on the ground, lying on his back, suffering from stab wounds to the right side of his neck, one to the left side of the armpit area, and one to left rib cage, bleeding from his neck area profusely.”
Rodriguez was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital and later to the Western Regional Hospital where he passed away early Wednesday morning while receiving treatment for his injuries.
The caretaker was detained and was also taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for medical attention for a ‘burst’ lip.
