Court tells Salvadoran national, Edwin Antonio Alfaro to leave Belize immediately, his wife and son given 48 hours to leave

By BBN Staff: Tonight, 45-year-old Edwin Antonio Alfaro is in custody at the Belize Central Prison pending an order to leave from the court, after being deemed a prohibited immigrant.

Alfaro had been convicted of immigration offenses twice since first coming to Belize in June of 2015, and in court, the Immigration Department said it was not seeking a fine for his current offense.

The department said that he was told on one of the occasions to renew his passport but he did not comply. In court he asked for the opportunity to return to Belize as he has a common-law wife and a son; however, the court decided that his wife and son have until Friday, May 6, to leave Belize as well.
