First a mother and sister-in-law murdered in 2016, now her son Chris Rodriguez: What are we coming to Belize?

By Deyanie Rodriguez Hyde: On April 30th 2016 we lost two women – they were mothers, sisters, sister-in-laws, aunts, friends, daughters, and wives – Miriam ‘Betty’ Mai and Daisy Miralda to a jealous, blood thirsty man. Up to today May 4, 2022, justice has not been served.

In April 2022, my cousins Chris Rodriguez and Cindy Rodriguez were asked to write a letter on how the loss of their moms has affected their lives. Oh how their lives changed drastically in the blink of an eye being the two older siblings in those two separate households, and the responsibility of helping out the younger ones. April 6, 2022 came and the CASE WAS ADJOURNED, its been SIX YEARS and they keep adjourning the case of the double murder in my Aunt’s salon in Santa Elena.

The murderer killed them both and then shot himself. He shot himself chin up, pretends as if he regretted the murders but still gave himself a chance at life while taking both my aunts away.

TODAY we mourn the loss of Chris, who after losing his mom, thrived like no other kid in our family. He would always bid the time of the day. Now, my question is why let him write a letter expressing himself about the loss of his mom simply to adjourn a case. A letter that is now sitting on top of other papers simply because he left this earth without seeing justice served for his mom’s death. To the Ministers and justice system, WHEN will our system get out of the messed up pattern of putting things off and procrastinating on dealing with these disgusting animals.

When will you all start caring about what Belize is coming to? Will it be when a killer pops up at your house and shoot you or one of your loved ones? Is that what it’s going to take to deal with this mess up front.

Chris was murdered because the GOVERNMENT implemented a fee to play on the field and he did not have a receipt of payment. Do you know what it’s like for a single father to be taking care of three kids all on his own after his wife was murdered? The man ‘mi d stretch e $1’ for all three kids. Some youth simply can’t afford it but have the love for the sport and to stay off the streets. I’m not saying he couldn’t afford it but this may be the case of many of our youths. However, after he was told to leave the grounds, he proceeded to DO SO. Why wait for him by the gate to tantalize him? I blame the government and until a murderer comes knocking at your doors ya’ll will never wake up.

Life is hitting us very hard with a second loss, it was hard for Chris and his two sisters to keep on living life after losing their mom.

Chris was mentally strong to over come that pain and used it to make himself a better person and make his mom proud. No one ever complained about him as he was such a respectful young man. He took care of his sisters, and checked in on them after school.

He was trying to prove that regardless of his mother not being here he was going to be somebody in life and be great at football. He loved when people would tell him that they are proud of him. Despite all that he went through he was becoming a great person and a good football player.

According to his father, Manuel Rodriguez, Chris was a much better man than he ever was at his age and Manuel says he will always be proud of him.

Sleep in Peace Tia, Dais and Bird!

We are not sitting back this time.
