Maskall villager served with notice of intended prosecution after knocking down man in Ladyville

By Benjamin Flowers: A man from Maskall Village, Belize District, has been served with a notice of intended prosecution by police after reportedly knocking down someone in Ladyville Village yesterday.

Police say that around 5:00 p.m. Jose Tomas Lopes, 62, was traveling through Ladyville on his way to Belize City when he knocked down 52-year-old Eulojio Solis.

Lopez told police that he was driving between 25 and 30 miles per hour through the village when he observed someone running across the street trying to catch a bus. Lopez said he tried to avoid hitting the man by swerving but still ended up knocking him down. He said he then drove off to park at the U-Mall, and went back to the scene where he found police and the victim lying face down on the ground, bleeding.

Solis has since been treated and released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and says he intends to make a report to Ladyville police.
