By Aaron Humes: It was a bit of a revelation that Orange Walk Central United Democratic Party caretaker Denny Grijalva led an internal effort in the UDP to obtain signatures for the churches’ petition submitted on Tuesday.
But Grijalva, a pastor, is an example of the party’s wide spectrum of views on the issue, according to Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow.
The Party has supported having a referendum and so is appreciative of the churches’ efforts.
But when it comes to a potential vote, Barrow said, he is in favor of the legalization of marijuana and would campaign for it.
Nonetheless, the Party will not be held collectively to that position and members will be allowed to vote according to their conscience.
