Kids 5 to 11 to receive COVID-19 vaccines, says Ministry of Health

Posted: Thursday, May 5, 2022. 12:51 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: As the old school year winds down, the Ministries of Health and Wellness and Education are collaborating on a vaccine program for COVID-19 for children ages five to 11.

As part of its Cabinet Brief this week, the Government stated that Minister Kevin Bernard had informed at the weekly Cabinet meeting that the vaccines “will soon be available;” it added that vaccines would be “safely delivered…to students in time for the start of the new school year.”

Presently just over half of Belizeans have at least one dose of vaccine and just under half are fully vaccinated, many of those children above the age of 11.

Also, the Ministry of Health & Wellness encourages all Belizeans 60 years or older and those with pre-existing conditions to get their second booster. Pfizer vaccines are due to expire in the coming weeks and will not be available until further notice.
