62-year-old female American tourist suspected to have drowned while snorkeling at night over the Barrier Reef

Posted: Friday, May 6, 2022. 10:19 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A night snorkeling tour over the Barrier Reef went awry earlier tonight, resulting in the death of a female tourist.

Police report that 62-year-old Celeste Lee Bondurant Bell, originally from North Carolina and staying in Caye Caulker, went out on a night tour with other guests in the early evening.

Police say she suddenly went down under the waves and failed to resurface and then was seen floating in the water.

Bondurant Bell was brought back to the mainland where attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Police say no foul play is suspected and there are no signs of injury to the body.
