Man who picked up charge for not wearing mask last year gets fined in court today

Posted: Friday, May 6, 2022. 7:04 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Despite mask mandates being lifted as of April 1, 2022, those who were charged for not wearing their masks before that date still have cases to answer to. Belize City resident, 44-year-old Dale Guzman found that out the hard way today, as he was summoned to court on a bench warrant for not showing up to his court date over his mask violation, which he picked up last year.

Guzman appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, to answer to his April 16, 2021 charge of failure to properly wear a face mask or face covering while in a public place.

Guzman pleaded guilty to the charge, and the magistrate took into account the fact that he was a first-offender in sentencing.

He was fined $500 plus $5 cost of court that he must pay by August 31 or he will face three months in prison.
