By Benjamin Flowers: Tonight, residents of the twin town San Ignacio and Santa Elena (SISE) are out in style for the Corn festival 2022 and Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
The event, which was coordinated by the SISE Town Council, is being held at the Cayo Welcome Center and along Burns Avenue.
The entire area has been decorated for the festival and vendors line the streets selling traditional Mexican food and many other corn-based products. The event also features live music.
The Council said that the event serves a cultural purpose as Belize has a connection to Mexico, with the northern districts already having traditions of celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
The Council also said that the event is being used as a means of boosting economic activity in the twin towns.
Day two of the festival will be held tomorrow
