By Aaron Humes: The sister city of Kaohsiung, Republic of China (Taiwan), through the non-governmental organization (NGO) Simply Help, has donated four thousand (4,000) face masks and forty-eight (48) sanitizers to the Belize City Council.

The donation was handed over on Friday during a courtesy visit between Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize David Kuan-Chou Chien and Mayor Bernard Wagner and Councillor Stephanne Hamilton (who holds the portfolio for Sister City Relations).

According to City Hall, “These items are to latterly be distributed to lower-income schools within Belize City as support to help students to continue accessing their most inalienable right to an education as examined in Article 28 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).”

The Council expressed gratitude to the City of Kaohsiung, Simply Help, and the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the provision of the precautionary material which will be put to proper use as we continue to practice proper safety precautions to combat the ever-lingering effects caused by COVID-19.

Ambassador Chien, Mayor Wagner and Councilor Hamilton held bilateral discussions on the advancement of the relationship the people of Kaohsiung and Belize City share during their visit.
