This week the Stella Maris School in Belize City celebrated its 64th anniversary.

On Thursday, the Belize City Council was represented at the anniversary celebrations at the Belize City school which focuses on training young people with special needs and diverse abilities.

“As an indication of our commitment to promoting an inclusive and welcoming environment for persons with diverse abilities, [Thursday], May 5th, 2022, Councillor Natasha Pipersburgh had the opportunity to represent the Belize City Council as an honorary guest for Stella Maris’ 64th Anniversary Celebrations in Belize City,” said the Belize City Council (CitCo) in a social media post.

Apart from academics Stella Maris teaches the children cosmetology, cake decorating, and school garden agriculture.

According to CitCo, Councillor Pipersburgh who holds the portfolio for Disabilities joined the Governor-General Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam; Minister of Education, Culture, Science & Technology Francis Fonseca; Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children Rossana Briceno; Disability Desk Coordinator Marshall Nunez; and other invited guests in offering “continuous support and accolades for the vital work that the Stella Maris Institute provides to persons and families with disabilities”.

The Belize City Council said Councillor Pipersburgh presented a social contribution to Stella Maria on behalf of Mayor Bernard Wagner and the Belize City Council to support the institution in its work.

Councillors Natasha Pipersburgh, Javier Castellanos, and Kaya Cattouse along with the Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam, Minister Francis Fonseca, and Special Envoy Briceño planted oleander and mahogany trees at Stella Maris. The three councillors also gave ‘sweet treats’ to the students and families of the Stella Maris School.

“Gratitude is extended to the Stella Maris Institute for extending the invitation to Mayor Wagner and the Belize City Council as we strive to remain socially responsible, inclusive, and innovative,” said the Belize City Council.
