By Benjamin Flowers: Late last week, NBC reported that COVID-19 deaths in the US had reached 1 million, today Worldometer reports that there have been over 24, 000 deaths since.
As of 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the US stood at 1,034,531.
Following the outset of the pandemic in 2020, the US quickly rose to have the most cases and most deaths of any other country in the world.
Currently, the US has confirmed over 83.57 million cases, with over 80.93 million recoveries.
Notably, the country with the second-highest number of deaths globally, Brazil, has 664,179 reported deaths.
The World Health Organization says that many cases and deaths have gone unreported and that the actual number of cases and deaths globally is expected to be considerably higher than what is reported.
