By Benjamin Flowers: The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season is scheduled to begin next month; however, weather experts reported today that they are monitoring the first tropical wave of this year.
In the United States National Hurricane Center’s Sunday morning tropical update, the NHC said that the tropical wave was emerging off the west coast of Africa and with clusters of moderate to strong convection are noted over parts of Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. The NHC said that it expects the wave to continue moving off the coast and into the Atlantic.
“Tropical wave guidance has it moving westward over the next 24-48 hours, crossing just [south] of the Cabo Verde Islands,” the update said.
The Orlando Sentinel notes that out-of-season storms are not a novelty, pointing out that there was a named storm, Anna, that occurred in May last year, along with Arthur and Bertha in 2020.
The first named storm of the 2022 season will be called Alex.
