Chris Rodriguez 5-A-Side football tournament planned for June 4 in Cayo

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Chris Rodriguez 5-A-Side Tournament has been planned for June in Cayo.

Eighteen-year-old Chris Rodriguez, also known as Bird, was stabbed multiple times at the Norman Broaster Stadium on Tuesday, May 3, and died on Wednesday morning at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan.

“My little cousin Chris was supposed to participate in this tournament for Calaz Summer Madness 2022,” said Rodriguez’s cousin Amir ‘Dj Mesmerize’ Rodriguez.

“Due to his tragic loss the family and I decided to immortalize him through this tournament.”

Calaz Summer Madness 2002 is a day and night event planned for June 4 in San Ignacio/Santa Elena that will feature sporting events, a mini business Expo, and comedy.

Amir Rodriguez said 16 teams will compete in the knockout tournament at the Macal River Park in San Ignacio. Teams should consist of 11 players. The registration deadline is May 14.

The winning team will take home $1,000.
