By Benjamin Flowers: A man is alleging that police officers in southern Belize stood by and watched him get shot without trying to assist.
Twenty-seven-year-old Frank Augustine was leaving an establishment in Seine Bight Village, early Sunday morning when a man approached his vehicle and opened fire on him.
Augustine was admitted to the Southern Regional Hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest.
In the aftermath of the ordeal, he reportedly claimed that officers were sitting right across from where the event occurred.
Today, head of communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police ASP Fitzroy Yearwood addressed the allegations saying that police are looking into every possible lead as part of an ongoing investigation.
“We at the police department are making our best efforts in trying to identify who was his attacker and bring this person to justice. The allegation against the police, if they were out there, we will definitely investigate that also. and we will know by our finding what to do with them if they were negligent in conducting their duties,” Yearwood said.
Augustine remains hospitalized at this time.
