Man pleads guilty to harming his wife during domestic dispute over a SIM card

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man, charged with harming his wife was fined in court today.

Thirty-two-year-old Jerry Ebanks, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, on a single charge of harm upon his wife.

He pleaded guilty with an explanation, saying that his wife stole his SIM card out of his phone and he only struggled with her to get it back. He said he did not realize that she had sustained scratches to the face during the incident, and was sorry for how the situation played out. He told the court that since a restraining order had been filed against him he could not see his children and as such was pleading with the court for leniency.

For his guilty plea, he was fined $500 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay, by July 15 or spend six months in prison for default.
