Mullins River woman dies after pick-up truck collides with James Bus in Dangriga

Posted: Tuesday, May 10, 2022. 11:18 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a collision Monday evening between a pick-up truck and a James Bus on Stann Creek Valley Road entering Dangriga Town.

According to police, the James Bus driven by Rolando Duran of Sarawee village, Stann Creek District was traveling to Dangriga from Belmopan. Between miles 2 and 3 on the Valley Road, it encountered a white pick-up truck coming from the right side of the highway, out of the dirt road next to the Lock and Key store, driven by one Paul Bernard who was accompanied by one Bernalda Pinelo, both of Mullins River, Stann Creek District.

Police investigations reveal that Duran flashed his lights and honked his horn to alert Bernard, who then reversed back into the dirt road. As Duran drove off, Bernard drove forward into the highway and tried to execute a left turn. Duran hit the brakes but was not able to avoid colliding with the front driver’s side of the truck, which sent both vehicles spinning, the bus landing on the left side of the road in a ditch, and the truck on the right-hand side.

Bernalda Pinelo appeared to have died on impact while Paul Bernard is in stable condition in the Southern Regional Hospital with injuries to the head and abrasions to the left upper arm and left knee. It does not appear that Duran or any passengers on the bus were injured.
