Benque Verdes Jrs upset Santa Cruz 2-1 in Benque 1st Division semifinals

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Benque Verdes Jrs shocked Santa Cruz 2-1 in Benque 1st Division semifinals on Sunday at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

Verdes Jrs had finished the regular season in fourth place while Santa Cruz had topped the league. But Santa Cruz are not out yet. It’s a double semifinal, so they have a second turn this coming Sunday in the second leg.

Luis Santos struck first blood for Santa Cruz in the 33’ according to the report from Benque Viejo Football Committee’s vice chairman Heraldo Ramcharam Jr. Elias Iglesias responded in the 68’ to tie the game and Pablo Martinez converted the game winner for Verdes Jrs in the 78’.

The return and definitive match is set for 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 15, at the Marshalleck Stadium after the 2:00 pm semifinal between Succotz United and the ZBoys.

Entrance fee is $5.00 for both matches.
