By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize needs more nurses in the public health sector and the Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW) is making a move to alleviate that situation by offering scholarships.
The MOHW announced on Wednesday that, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST), it is offering 15 nursing scholarships.
The MOHW said it is calling on eligible applicants for scholarships to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Belize.
The scholarships include tuition and fees.
Persons interested in becoming nurses have up to July 1 to apply.
Applicants should be Belizeans and have a grade point average of 2.8. The applicants must also present an acceptance letter from the University of Belize, a police record, and an essay saying why they want to join the nursing profession among other regular requirements.
