Peoples United Party claims more uncontested slates in Village Council Elections

By Aaron Humes: The ruling People’s United Party claims to have widened their lead in the Village Council Elections, which began with nominations of candidates this past Sunday.

In a statement this afternoon the party said its slates have been duly elected after facing no Opposition in Arenal, Cayo District; Isabella Bank and Lemonal in the Belize District; and Georgeville in central Cayo District.

These join Hummingbird Community, Steadfast Village and Valley Community from Stann Creek West, which area representative Rodwell Ferguson claimed by social media on Sunday. Additionally, the six councilor candidates in Hope Creek Village, Stann Creek District (part of the Dangriga division) are likewise unopposed and the parties will only fight for the chairmanship.

The Party has thanked its candidates who were nominated on Sunday and will contest elections on May 15. The PUP has chosen, “Forward Together” as its theme for this year’s village council elections.

Independence Hall concludes, “Our BLU Machine is oiled and ready. Our people are energized and ready to work with a PUP Central Government focused on Plan Belize.”

The PUP already controls all municipal councils except for San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town and a supermajority of seats in the Legislature.
