Police seize over two kilos of marijuana after high speed chase on George Price highway

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department busted two men last night with over 2 kilos of marijuana after a high-speed chase on the George Price Highway.

Police say that around 8:30 p.m. a grey, 4-door Jetta with no license plates approached the Mile 4 checkpoint. Officers signaled the driver to stop but he sped off instead. As officers set chase, someone was seen throwing objects out of the Jetta.

Police later caught up with the occupants, 47-year-old Roy Herrera, and 39-year-old Carden Lewis, both Hattieville residents, after they stopped the vehicle near Trinity church.

The officers escorted the men back to where the objects were thrown and retrieved five packages of marijuana, which weighed a total of 2.611 kilograms (just over 5.7 pounds).

Both men have been detained pending charges.
