“Time Fu Eat” For Free!

Posted: Wednesday, May 11, 2022. 4:19 pm CST.

Contributed by Julissa Torres: “Time Fu Eat”, a short film by Carlo Habet is the director’s first foray into film and while it was made to be entertaining and socially aware, it was primarily made to be uniquely Belizean. The film features an ensemble cast but centers around Lex, Belize’s hottest musical artist who is finally getting his comeuppance after years of hard work.

His big payday is doing the political rally rounds for the leading political party, the PDP, as they parlay his popularity into votes for the upcoming national election. After one of these rallies, Darren, Lex’s handler and the minister’s right-hand man, uses Lex’s star power to pick up women and party. Initially hesitant, Lex gives in but is surprised by some unexpected guests, and they all get swept up into Darren’s scheme and a truly chaotic night.

“Time Fu Eat” is unique in its perspective as it shows the underbelly of a modern urban Belizean lifestyle as opposed to the imagery of happy faces and luxurious beaches we’ve grown accustomed to in our media. The film focuses on political obsession and the reality that times have changed so much to the point that trading favors gets you further in life than actual currency or honest work. The film was made with the goal of sparking conversation about our current society and being authentic to the Belizean experience.

IGNITE was created in 2014 by creatives for creatives. A full-service production and advertising company, IGNITE has made its impressive mark as leaders in the media industry, most notably blazing a trail for Belizean music videos. While they have a stronghold on the Belizean video-making industry, Veritas Productions was formed to specifically be the vehicle for independent film and video production as a sister company to IGNITE. Veritas comes from the Latin word for “truth” and at the source of every story no matter the medium it’s told in – is truth. The goals for both companies have always been to produce film, original content, and creating a distinctive look for the Belizean film industry.

Originally premiered in 2019, festival admission rules and the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the film’s public release, but on Saturday May 14 a special showing will be held at the Bliss at 7:00 PM with an accompanying livestream via IGNITE’s Facebook and YouTube pages. A Q&A with the cast and crew will immediately follow and the audience at home is encouraged to submit their questions via the livestream.

IGNITE and Veritas’ next venture will be a spin-off within the “Time Fu Eat” universe! Keep updated with them on their social media and tune-in 7:00 PM for the big premiere.
