By Aaron Humes: The average Belizean mostly looks forward to the National Agricultural and Trade Show for big steals and deals on already produced products. They will leave the real farming to those lucky enough to be recognized as Farmers of the Year, or even those just selling produce.
But the COVID-19 pandemic has forced some to become budding agriculturalists themselves, producing vegetables, fruits, and medicinal herbs in their own backyard gardens.
The NATS Committee wishes to recognize these talents with a “Backyaad Garden Competition.”
Entry is free. Simply take pictures of the garden; post them to your Facebook page; and tag the official National Agriculture and Trade Show Facebook page, including the hashtag #nats22backyaadgarden.
The pictures with the most likes by May 24 can win up to a thousand dollars in prizes. The top three winners will be announced during official ceremonies to open NATS 2022 on May 27.
All are invited to take part as the National Agriculture and Trade Show marks its 50th anniversary and returns after two years of COVID-19.
