Teachers and Government celebrate Teacher’s Day 2022

Posted: Thursday, May 12, 2022. 1:22 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Belize takes a day to salute teachers and their invaluable role in the shaping of the nation, through the celebration of Teacher’s Day 2022.

The day is being observed under the theme “Dedicated to service, Unified by passion, Leading through difficult times.”

To help the teachers celebrate their special day, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology, is holding an event at Old Belize, which includes remarks by the Minister of Education Francis Fonseca, remarks by the President of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) Elena Smith, and live entertainment.

The Teacher’s dAy celebration comes ahead of the teachers having their salaries restored after it was cut by 10 percent back in 2021.

Minister Fonseca, in a recent interview, reconfirmed that teachers will be getting their 10 percent salaries back in July and that schools will revert to full, in-class learning for five days a week, once the new school year begins in August.

Breaking Belize News takes this time to wish teachers all across Belize a Happy Teacher’s Day and thanks them for their service.
