By BBN Staff: Two Hattieville residents who were caught with over 2 kilograms of marijuana earlier this week were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Forty-seven-year-old Ian Herrera and 39-year-old Carden Lewis appeared unrepresented, answering to a single count each of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply, to which they both pleaded not guilty.
In court, the prosecutor said he does not believe that the accused would show up to court if granted bail and noted that both men have previous convictions for drug trafficking. The prosecutor also said that both men had outstanding debts to the court for old convictions and that Lewis is in violation of his parole, following a three-year prison sentence for a drug trafficking conviction.
After some consideration, the Magistrate granted in the sum of $3,000 each plus two sureties of $1,500 each with conditions in which they must not interfere with any of the prosecution’s witnesses or any members of their family, and they must both report to the Hattieville Police Station twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays between the hours of 6:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.
