Belize Athletics Association extends registration deadline for National Championship to Saturday morning

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Athletics Association extended the registration deadline for the National Championship to Saturday at 8:00 am, one hour before the event.

The original deadline was Wednesday, May 11 at 11:59 pm but not enough athletes had registered up to that time, so the BAA decided to allow them more time, said the BAA president Deon Sutherland.

The BAA had said earlier this week that it is expecting from 75 to 100 to register for the 2022 National Track and Field Championships scheduled for this weekend, May 14-15, at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.

The National Championships begin with the Women’s 100m at 9:00 am on Saturday. The last event on Day One will be the Men’s 4x100m Relay at 3:15 pm.

Day Two starts on Sunday at 8:00 am with the Women’s 3000m at 8:00 am and runs to mid-afternoon. The closing event on Sunday is the Men’s 4x400m Relay at 1:45 pm.

The events at the National Championships include 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin, discus, and shot put.

To compete, athletes must be 16 years old or older.
