Two men held following shooting incident involving Deputy Mayor

Posted: Saturday, May 14, 2022. 1:24 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police have confirmed that they have detained two persons in relation to a shooting incident early this morning at Newtown Barracks involving Deputy Mayor of Belize City, Micah Goodin.

According to the official report, one Kenyon Tillett, a traffic warden, told police that around 2:30 this morning he was on a street behind the ICON Building on Newtown Barracks along with some friends when he heard a “commotion.”

According to Tillett, he and his friends met Goodin and some of his friends who were in a black Nissan Rogue SUV where they got into an altercation.

Goodin and his group left the scene in the SUV but as they did, Tillett claimed someone sitting in the back seat of the Rogue fired three shots toward him. Tillett responded by pulling out his licensed firearm and firing four shots at the moving vehicle, which drove off.

Shortly thereafter, Goodin and another man arrived at the police station in the Rogue, which showed gunshot holes in the rear windshield and door, and reported being shot at behind the ICON call center. They added that one Tae Medina, 20, was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital with minor injuries suspected to have been caused by the shooting; he was another passenger in the vehicle.

Both Tillett and the man accompanying Goodin were detained; we understand that Goodin has not been detained concerning the incident.

We have so far been unable to reach Mayor Bernard Wagner concerning this incident, which remains under investigation.
