Contributed by Othon Castillo Jr.: Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Party Leader words after the recall convention: “Firstly we’d have to work on the unity and I want to be clear that unity means that we’ll have to work with those who are interested in working in unity. There are some who may feel like my victory today will cause them to not want to move on and if they absolutely feel that they can’t work with me, I’d hope that they’d walk away so that we can embrace those who are serious about rebuilding the party and for me it is that I am willing to embrace anybody who is serious about working for this party and moving this party forward and that doesn’t mean a new direction, I think that anybody who still has their head buried in the sand and believes that the people in this country did not send a very loud and clear message to the UDP that it needs to change and it can’t be the same old, same old from pre November 11th then we have missed the boat. So I’m willing to engage anybody, I have no hatred or no dislike for anybody who may have gone against me in this convention we’re all UDP’s and my task now is to make sure we’re strong as ever and ready to face whenever an election is called but also tackle now the many atrocities that the PUP is raining down against our country.”

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Party Leader on John Saldivar: “My friend and colleague, John Saldivar.” And then, Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Party Leader speaking about  Saldivar and his Caucus for Change, an ally in uniting the UDP – after five rounds of conciliatory meetings between the two:

“And we were able to quickly decide on one thing, that it was time we unite the party, that it was time that we use our efforts to bring the party together, that it was time for us to bring the colleagues together, that it was time for us to say to the wider party let us stop this division and let us focus on fighting against the enemy which is the People’s United Party. And I will make clear that on that occasion when John and I sat, all that was promised or all that was requested or all that was discussed is how we can bring the party together.”

Now fast forward to 2022, all of a sudden the Caucus for change is a bad thing for the UDP and they were the ones who brought UNITY under your leadership. It was under your leadership that the decision was made to hold on to the candidates who ran for general elections in 2020 and had lost their divisions as caretakers until conventions were held so the people could decide who would represent them. Even though many people were totally against it, you had your way.

You had your chance as party leader and you did it to yourself to lose the seat, no one did it to you, you did it to yourself. Now that we have a new party leader now these same caretakers were inherited by the new party leader. Priorities are priorities, Village council elections are first then the convention for constituency leaders, also keep in mind, we are faced with a re-districting so we don’t know how the divisions will look after the re-districting.

I make no apologies to what I will say, but in your own words “Firstly we’d have to work on the unity and I want to be clear that unity means that we’ll have to work with those who are interested in working in unity.”

This great UDP party belongs to us the thousands of UDP’s who in all elections vote for our party, not for a handful of people who believe that they own the party. It was under your leadership as Party Leader that we suffered the two greatest losses in both General Elections and Municipal elections. I think it’s time for us to continue to work as hard as possible to bring back this party to where it was before under the leadership of the Hon. Dr. Shyne Barrow.
