Men who shot at Deputy Mayor Micah Goodin and his friend get remanded to Belize Central Prison

Posted: Monday, May 16, 2022. 9:25 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Tarique James, 31, and Kenyon Tillett, 28, were remanded to the Belize Central Prison today, after being charged with shooting at Belize City Deputy Mayor Micah Goodin, and injuring Tae Medina, who was with Goodin at the time.

Both men arrived in court in the same van but were arraigned separately. First, to be arraigned was Tillett, who was represented at the time by attorney Ronell Gonzalez, who was filling in temporarily for Richard “Dickie” Bradley.

Tillett was read three charges, one count of aggravated assault upon Micah Goodin, one count of wounding Tae Medina, and one count of discharging a firearm in a public place. Due to the nature of the offence, he was denied bail and was remanded to prison until July 19.

James was next to be arraigned, answering to a single count of discharging a firearm in public. Like Tillett, he was denied bail and remanded until July 19.

Reports are that the incident began with an altercation that happened around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, on Newtown Barracks behind the ICON Call Center.

Tillett claims that he tried to diffuse the altercation but when Goodin and Medina got into an SUV and drove off, someone fired shots at him from the SUV; that’s when he and James used their licensed firearms to return fire.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that both men may lose their firearms licenses over the incident.
